Cork Airport (ORK)
Car Hire / Rental
The road network in southern Ireland is well established and roads are normally uncongested, making getting about easy if you intend to hire a car. Cork International Airport (ORK) receives thousands of daily visitors, many of which need to hire a car. In total there are nine car rental companies represented at the airport and all of these are listed below.
You will find the various car rental desks situated within the actual Arrivals Hall on the ground floor of the terminal at Cork Airport. Booking ahead of your arrival is recommended at any time of the year, as some of the car hire firms do not currently provide on-the-spot rentals.
Car Rental, Driving and Parking in Cork
Cork is the third-largest city in the whole of Ireland, after both Belfast and Dublin. Located in central County Cork, the city is divided by the River Lee and features a number of busy bridges. Driving around Cork isn't too difficult, although the city was designed well before the arrival of cars and many roads are narrow, creating bottlenecks and making one-way streets necessary. The new 'inner orbital' route provides fast and easy access to the centre, with clearly numbered junctions and plenty of signposts to ensure that you won't get lost.
Much of central Cork has recently been renovated and many areas are now fully pedestrianised. On-street parking is available in some spots and parking disks can be purchased from many local shops. Alternatively, multi-storey car parks are an equally popular option and can be found at Carrolls Quay, St. Patrick's Quay, at Cork City Hall and close to St. Finbarr's Cathedral. Further car parks are sited along Grand Parade, North Main Street and Paul Street.
